I must admit, I didn’t have the perfect go-to LBD until I found this gem online. A couple years ago, I had purchased one from ASOS online but it wasn’t “perfect” enough to be my little black dress. At the time, I had my tailor take it in and alter the dress. I tried it on and still, I felt….meh. It really had to do with the style of the dress even though I paid more for the alterations than the actual dress itself. The dress did not flatter my body type so it hung in my closet collecting dust, never making it out the house until I donated it to Value Village!
My LBD was purchased online from Simons and I scored it on SALE!!! I bought a size small knowing I would have to take it to my tailor to have it fitted. A little magic from my tailor and VOILA! I finally have the perfect little black dress! What I love about my dress is the one-shoulder neckline and the front side slit. I’ve been seeing a lot of one-shoulder necklines on fashion tops and dresses this Summer. I think this 90’s look is making a comeback and I’m not mad at all! I think it flatters someone like me who have nothing to show in terms of cleavage therefore, I’ll show some neck and arm!
How to Style: The blessing with having a go-to LBD is its versatility. Your decision making is really how formal or informal you want to look for your event or night out. Let’s say you have to attend a formal charity event. I suggest you pairing your LBD with a beautiful embellished long coat and satin pointed toe pumps. Don’t forget the chandelier earrings and a beaded clutch to go with. An evening night out with your girlfriends, why not channel in your inner-Carrie Bradshaw! Don’t be afraid of incorporating complementary colors, textures and prints! Rock your LBD with a pair of jewel-toned statement earrings, leopard open toe pumps and don’t forget to apply your favorite red lipstick. To dress it down, you can wear it with a motorcycle leather jacket, fishnet stockings and Doc Marten’s Clemency leather lace up boots. You’ll be looking fly and still be comfortable as you werk, werk, werk the night away!
