TRANSITION
Change is inevitable. It occurs in our life whether we are willing to embrace it or not. Coming home from Bali, our family received the news the house was sold and we had about two weeks to pack up our belongings. It’s funny because when I was in Bali I would FaceTime my sister and jokingly ask her if the house sold. Her response, “Nope! You’re good. You’ll have a home to come too!” Oh really sis!!! Luckily, the tenants from my other cousin’s place left and everything perfectly aligned. The Universe worked in our favour. Thank you, Universe!!! Our family didn’t have to scurry around looking for a house to live in, a house was already available for our family’s new beginning. Not only did we have to deal with the move, the season transitioned from autumn to winter. Born and raised in Edmonton, AB you would think I would be prepared for the harsh, cold winter or grow to enjoy it. Nope. Sammy don’t do winter! Take me back to Bali!!! Winter is beautiful don’t get me wrong. I love when the city is blanketed with the crisp, white snow and it definitely sets the mood for the holiday season. I just prefer to enjoy winter’s beauty from the comforts of my home and not have to go outside and deal with it. When I was boxing up my clothes and Marie Kondo-ing my belongings, figuring out what brings me joy and what doesn’t, I realize I had nothing to wear for winter. Everything I had were for summer/spring and that’s because I hate buying winter clothes! I prefer buying beautiful summer dresses, jumpsuits and kimonos in light-weight, silky fabrics. I’m not a big, chunky sweater and leggings kind of girl but I have no choice! I don’t want to die of frost-bites trying to look cute! With life, we are dealt with unexpected and expected changes. It’s up to us to perceive the changes to be good or bad. My family and I are fortunate we can call a new house our home. Living in Edmonton, AB, its expected fall transitions to winter whether I like it or not. Life is full of ebbs and flows. In this present moment, I make the choice to embrace it and work with it.
How to Style: I still love to wear dresses when it’s winter time even if it’s my summer dresses. I just make sure the colours and prints are right for the fall/winter. To stay warm and still look fashionable, I love to incorporate winter accessories such as fashion tights, leggings, blanket scarves and the perfect pair of ankle boots. I purchased this lovely burnt orange wrap dress in Nusa Lembongan at a store called Waterhouse. It’s a pretty versatile dress because it permits me to wear it for all four seasons. To wear my wrap dress or any short dresses in winter, I would wear it with fashion tights. Make sure they are thick, fashion tights and not sheer. Remember you want to stay warm while you look good! I would even wear a pair of extra socks so my toes don’t fall off! To finish off my look, I would wear a beautiful blanket scarf and a pair of ankle boots. Another look would be to pair it with a long cardigan sweater, leggings and knee-high fashion boots. If you want to look cute for a night out and don’t mind freezing a little, rock this wrap dress with a fur coat, knee-high socks and a pair of chunky oxfords.
