Do you remember the kimono I was raving about in my Brooklyn, NY post? Here she is!!!! Isn’t she lovely? I am a proud owner of a beautiful hand-painted kimono. I made my purchase at the Brooklyn Flea from a vendor who had an incredible selection of one-of-a-kind kimonos. If you are there, please don’t forget to visit this stall! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed and real talk, it took A LOT of self-control for me to only purchase one.

It was last weekend, when my siblings and I were fortunate enough to travel to Stockton, CA to attend my cousin’s wedding. It’s been 10 YEARS since we visited our family! The Mother of the Bride (aka my aunt) informed me there would be two morning ceremonies followed by a wedding reception held for her daughter’s wedding. On Friday, a Khmer Traditional morning ceremony would take place and on Saturday, another wedding ceremony at a botanical garden in Mickey Grove. This was the perfect event to wear my fabulous kimono! I packed my kimono and a pink slip dress for the event and once we landed in Stockton, I realized there was NO WAY I could wear my kimono! It was too freaking hot… like 38 °C HOT!!! Clearly, the drenched in sweat look would not be Instagram worthy! It was unfortunate because I would have killed this look!

How to Style: The kimono truly speaks for itself! Therefore, for this look, I paired it with a simple wrap dress in pastel pink so my kimono could be the focus. If I was to wear this kimono and create other looks, I would make sure to wear neutral tones. Colors such as light beige, cream, sand, tan, creamy yellow, pastel pink and white would be very complementary. For an evening out, I would definitely pair my kimono with a LBD (little black dress), strappy heels and accessorize it with a white beaded clutch. It’s good to make sure the dress cuts above or a little below the knees. I would avoid wearing a flowy long dress because you don’t want too much excess fabric since the kimono in itself has a lot of fabric. For a casual look, I would pair it with a V-neck style tank top, light denim pants with camel wedge heels or white pumps.
