Contemporary, street style has been going on for a minute now. It’s looking stylish and put together while you’re rocking your casual attire. Street style vibes can be pulling off a plaid mini dress, door knocker hoop earrings with your Nike or Adidas kicks to wearing an oversize denim jacket, crop top, cargo pants, and Timberland boots. Street style for me is pulling looks and inspirations from the late 90’s to early 2000’s. These looks are prominent in retail stores such as H&M, Aritzia, Pacsun, Forever 21 and Urban Outfitters. Just to name a few. When I do street style, my fashion inspirations for 90’s to early 2000’s, I’m channeling in the beautiful songstress, Aaliyah and Tyra Bank’s character, Jackie from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Turtle-neck crop tops, boyfriend’s plaid shirt with some baggy denim jeans and lace-up boots. Now that’s a vibe!

A staple piece in everyone’s wardrobe is a denim jacket. A good denim jacket never goes out of style. It compliments a street style look by giving it a polish vibe with some added flair! If you don’t have a nice-fitted, light-wash denim jacket, I suggest you look for one. Best time to shop for one is around the summer time. You will have more options to choose from. Also, other worthy options to consider for a denim jacket includes an over-size denim jacket, faded black, or a jacket with embellishments. My all-time favourite denim jacket has to be my distress, oversize denim with graffiti writing on the back, which I purchased ages ago from Forever 21. The back reads “J’ADORE LE ROCK N ROLL”. Rocking this jacket definitely adds some flavour to my street style.

Fashion Tip: If you’re a late 80’s child like me, get your fashion inspirations from the characters of TV series such as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Family Matters, Full House, Clueless and Martin. Think about the brands you loved and had worn during your junior high and high school years! Nike, Adidas, Champs, FILA and Reebok. And make sure you don’t forget to wear your denim jacket for your street style look!
